Heidi Benzonelli from West Side Community Improvement:

Heidi said that West Side Community Improvement is primarily known as a group of neighbors who formed a non-profit and bought Jefferson school and renovated it into a community park and community center but they’ve done a lot of different things.

Each year they hold an Event – Community Created Jefferson. They gather input from community members to develop priorities for the coming year.  Each year a variety of things are brought up from the community members. Past examples include improving relationships with Law Enforcement, alley cleanups of problem areas which included helping elderly people fix fences/paint homes, etc.  Heidi also owns Eureka Vacation Rentals and is on a housing committee for the city.  Recently they took a look at dilapidated buildings in Old Town and as a result are now looking into building a hostel at a building in Old Town located on 3rd between C & D. (known as the Heroin Hilton locally.) They are putting together a number of partners to make this happen.  If you are interested there will be a tour:   4/23 6-8pm 216 3rd St.  Come and bring your ideas.  Like them on facebook to stay up to date on all of the happenings. https://www.facebook.com/Jefferson.Project

Meeting was adjourned at 12:43pm.
