February 1, 2021

The meeting was called to order by President Mindy Sehon at noon with 25 people in attendance.  We broke into small groups for “table talk” and discussed National dark chocolate day…. Which is today.

Our inspirational moment was provided by Kate Witthaus.  Kate read a quote attributed to Abraham Lincoln.  “I don’t like that man, I must get to know him better.”  There is a lot of polarization in our community, nation and world right now.  This quote has a lot of meaning.

Mindy said that we need volunteer drivers for Backpacks for Kids.  We had volunteers from Soropotimists helping out but have recently been told at the national level that they cannot meet in person at the moment due to COVID concerns.  Drivers are needed on February 4, 11 and 25. You would pick up the bags on Thursday afternoon at Redwood Cellars and deliver to the schools on Friday morning. (23 bags to Alice Birney/ 30 bags to Lafayette).  Please contact Mindy if you can help.

Our Valentine’s Day Fundraiser is going on now.  Buy a box of Kenny’s locally made chocolates and $10 from each box goes to Food for People to raise money for the forklift extender we are purchasing.  39 boxes have been sold so far, you can also donate additional funds when you purchase the chocolate if you wish. Order by 2/5/21 before noon @ Chocolate.rotaryeureka.org Please share.

RECOGNITIONS:  Klark Swan had a birthday.  Dennis Hunter is celebrating his 44th anniversary as a Rotarian. Mindy recently made partner at George Petersen association.  Past President Bert Campton fined Mindy, $25 for her accomplishment. Jerry and Becky were ambassadors of the year at the Eureka Chamber of Commerce Dinner.  Jerry fined himself $25.

Our speaker did not show up and after a little sleuthing by Matthew Owen it turns out our speaker was stuck out of town due to weather.  Next week Dr. Ian Hoffman from public health will be our speaker. We will be dark for President’s week on the 15th.  Our meeting was adjourned at 12:30pm.
